Gold Coin Math Game Freebies!

Hello, March! It's time for some St. Patrick's Day gold coin math games!

I'll bet you already have a stash of these deliciously engaging gold coins. What kid can resist them, right?  If you don't have them, you can pick up a few packs at the dollar store.  A few dollars worth will go a long way with these games.  Plus, you can get double duty from these coins when you use them again in September for pirate games on Talk Like a Pirate Day.


All your students will need to play these games is gold coins and dice - no game boards, no cards!  A few of the games also require a whiteboard and erasable marker, but your students can just use paper and pencil. If you'd prefer not to use the coins, two-sided counters or even pennies are perfect substitutes!


Here are the games in this free set:

* Roll and Give - addition, sums through 12

* Roll and Take - addition, sums through 12

* Shamrock Toss and Tally - counting, tallying to 50

* Away with the Coins - subtraction from six or less

* Toss Ten  - combinations of ten

* Roll, Tally, Stack - addition sums through 12, tally marks

In this free file, you'll receive a task card/directions card for each of these six games.

I  love using these games for March math rotations.  Your students will have fun finding a new game or two each time they visit a center! Enjoy using them!


Games are an AWESOME way to keep our students actively practicing skills in math centers. Games are fun, so they'll want to play again and again (less of that "I'm finished! Now what do I do?" that we all dread hearing!)

Just a Little Irish Making Words Freebie!

Title explanation: I'm just a little Irish - isn't everyone in March? Actually, I'm even less than many people. My grandchildren are a tiny fraction Irish - does that count? Does it flip back from the next generation to us? ;)  ☘️

The other meaning of the title, of course, is that I have a little seasonal freebie for you! Making words activities are so fun for kids, and as they manipulate the letters to make words, our students are also gaining skills with recognizing and using spelling patterns, inflectional endings, prefixes, and suffixes.

This activity has two levels of difficulty. The first level has students make words from the letters in "leprechauns". The second level is the same, but your students aren't given the word leprechauns and must discover it by rearranging all of the letter cards.

There are recording sheets for both levels. Just to save you a few moments of time, your free download also includes a list of many of the words that can be made with "leprechauns"!

The Leprechauns Took the Numbers - Freebie!

Are you getting ready for lots of St. Patrick's Day fun with your little learners? You know what I mean... hidden gold coins, flipped over chairs, the kind of stuff that leprechauns specialize in!

Here's a math game that combines a bit of the fun of leprechaun mischief with practicing the sequence of numbers from 11 to 20. There are 3 sets of write-on-wipe-off cards: "What comes next?", "What comes between?" and "What comes before?"  You can use the sets separately to focus on the particular needs of a student, or mix them together to give your most capable students a challenge.

St. Patrick's Day Math Freebie for the Hundred Chart!

Today I want to tell you about this free set of  Lucky Numbers Hundred Chart Games.  These simple games are MAGIC for math review on the hundred chart! Fun for St. Patrick's Day, especially when you use fun little erasers like rainbows and pots of gold as game board markers. 🍀 Use them for the 100th Day of School, too!

Hundred chart and 120 chart games are a great way to work on number sequence, counting and matching one-to-one, counting on, and sometimes even a bit of addition, subtraction, and place value.

These Lucky Numbers hundred chart games are low prep and super simple to play, but my first graders have loved them over the years!  The games all use a hundred chart as the game board (print the St. Patrick's one that's in this pack, or just use your own).  Players roll two dice, add, and move ahead that many spaces.

So, what's new about that?? Well, read on! 

What makes these games extra fun is the **Lucky Numbers** twist.  Each set of players has a task card with a different set of lucky numbers. When a player's turn lands him on one of those numbers, he  moves ahead ten spaces, which to a first grader is almost as good as winning an extra recess!

Seriously, kids think they're playing a new game whenever they get a new set of numbers, so they want to play again, and again, and ...   😊 Meanwhile, there's lots of addition practice as well as some bonus practice with moving ahead ten on the hundred chart.

St. Patrick's Day Freebie - 4 in a row!

Here's a little something for St. Patrick's Day - wow, how can it possibly be March already!! I was thinking about the word "lucky" and how it might be used in a freebie for you.

Here's what I came up with.

Here's a fun way to give your students a bit of extra phonics practice decoding words with /ck/, like tricky, pickle, cracker, and tickle.  After all, what's more fun than a Four-in-a-Row game for your literacy centers?
