Winter Freebies Part 2 - Literacy!

Hi, Teaching Friends!

In my last post, I gathered together a big batch of my winter math freebies and promised I'd do the same soon with literacy freebies. So, here they are!

Let's start off with this winter writing freebie! These three writing tools will thaw the frozen writers' brains, even in subzero temps!

Here's a fun read-aloud for winter days. With its strong picture-text match, lots of high frequency words, and patterned text, this book is great for modeling early reading strategies - and for your students to practice the strategies on their own, too! Click on the picture to get your copy.

When your ready for some meaty writing prompts for winter ... prompts with questions to guide and expand your students' writing ... try these!

Here's a winter letter match for the little guys.

Do you use whole class journals? Check this post for ideas and to get this set of free covers to help you get started.

The beginning of a new year is a great time to review the names and sequence of the months. Find simple tips and tricks on this post, plus free printables.

Here's a set of thematic word cards for alphabetizing ... but they'd also make an easy and engaging addition to your writing center.

Do you teach about penguins in January? One of my favorite units! Try this free read the room activity.

Well, now that I've spilled the beans on all these freebies, I guess I'll have to get busy making some new ones for you and your students very soon!  In the meantime, I hope you'll stop by my TPT store and take a look at my other winter resources.  I hope you'll find just what you need to keep your school days merry and bright!

Winter Math Freebie Roundup!

Hi, Teaching Friends!

I recently realized just how many freebies I have for winter!  Rather than making you hunt here and there for them, I decided to put together a quick post that will put a bunch of them in one spot for you! Today, the math freebies!

In my last post, I shared that I recently updated this oldie but goodie, and also posted it in my TPT store.  Your students will add and subtract the dots on dominos, and then sort their answers by odd/even. Find it here.

Are you working on the 120 chart? Here's a slides and ladders game to practice adding one and adding two!

Adding ten on the 120 chart? Got that covered, too! Try this!

Here's one for the little guys! Your PreK and kindergarten students will use these 48 cards to match numerals to number words, objects, and ten frame representations.

Here's one of the three games you'll find in Snowy Strategies Addition Games.

Kids getting itchy with all those indoor recess days? Here's a Read the Room activity that will get them up and out of their seats to get some of the wiggles out.

This set is great to use throughout December as part of your calendar time. Your students will tally and graph their favorite holiday characters, colors, cookies and more. There's a book cover included, if you'd like to assemble the finished graphs into a class book.

Last, here's a set of four free winter math games! Easy prep, these games are just one page each, with no cards to print! These are samples from the four sets in this winter game bundle.

I hope you'll enjoy using these with your class this year! Keep an eye out for a winter literacy freebies post, coming soon!

Happy Teaching!

Winter Freebies for Math, CVC Words, and More!

Happy New Year, Teaching Friends!

I'd love to share a few of my winter freebies with you ... something for reading and math - something for everybody!

Are you working on CVC words? Here's a free game that will give your little guys lots and lots of practice blending to read short vowel words!

Because fluency instruction is so critical to successful comprehension, here's a set of free winter sight word phrases, to help your new readers cluster words appropriately, smoothly, and quickly. You'll find 19 phrase cards in this set - just punch holes and join them with a key ring or carabiner and you've got an instant center activity!

And finally, math!

Here are some matching cards for my PreK and kindergarten friends, with numerals, number word, objects to count or subitize, and ten frames for one to ten.

Best wishes to you all for a happy and healthy new year - a successful year of learning and growing with your class!

Happy Teaching!

Two Seasoned Freebies Find New Homes!

Hi, Teaching Friends!

Have you ever been in a meeting where some of the less-than-young teachers are referred to as "old teachers"? If doesn't much matter whether you're 59 or 29, it's just not the most endearing title in the world. I've heard the term veteran teachers, which kind of makes it sound like we've been in the trenches... well, some days... yes, that's true! I've also heard the title "seasoned teachers", and I kind of like that one!

So, here are some freebies that are "seasoned". I'm a believer in once-free-always-free, but I know that my store also needed some housecleaning.  These freebies have been at TpT for a while. In fact, both were included in earlier editions of the famous TpT Freebie Ebooks.  Now I've shined up these oldies but goodies and moved them to a new home here!

The first freebie is a set of cut-apart puzzles for the 120 chart.

You can now find these six puzzles in the preview of Rowdy Robots ~ Activities for the 120 Chart

The second freebie is a fun December activity that will build your students' familiarity with the vocabulary specific to this month's holidays. It will put a little bit of shaking action in your literacy centers, with the hope of channeling some of that extra energy all your little learners have this month!
You'll now find Shake-a-Bottle for December Holidays only here on this blog, downloadable at Google Drive.

Enjoy these seasoned freebies ... with a little extra oregano and thyme, or whatever suits your fancy! ;)
