Thrifty? Find Books for Your Class Library!

Hi, Teaching Friends!

Do you ever visit any of these beautiful New Jersey beaches?

Manasquan

Seaside Park

 Island Beach State Park

All three of these are within about 15 miles of where we live. Lucky, yes, I know!

I came across these pictures on Facebook. Check out the link to see the 21 other gorgeous beaches featured in this collection on BuzzFeed.

And how does this beachy loveliness connect with the title of this post?

Well, if you live near or have visited the Jersey shore, you know that chances are good that you'll be traveling on either the Garden State Parkway or Route 9.  And only a few hundred feet from Route 9 in Bayville, from today through July 5th, there's a GREAT BIG BOOK SALE!

The Berkeley Branch of the Ocean County Library is loaded with used books - tables are stacked high for this sale. Here's part of the children's book display.

Come and grab books for your classroom - $.50 for hardcovers, $.25 for paperbacks. It's also a great opportunity to pick up some reading for the beach. Adult hardcovers are $1.00.  And if you want to take a chance on what might be left, wait until the Saturday the 5th, the last day, and fill a whole bag for $4!  The profits all go to the Friends of the Library. We use the money to support library programs, mostly things for the kids.

If you don't live near the Jersey Shore, chances are good that you can still find a book sale near you. Visit Book Sale Finder  to see a state-by-state list. It's a terrific way to build up your class library at a very reasonable cost.

Happy Teaching! (and happy beaching, too!)
